Broadcom CEO Hok Tan and Soprano Jo Sumi Awarded Honorary Doctorates by KAIST
KAIST (President Kwang Hyung Lee) announced on the 16th that it will award honorary doctoral degrees to Hock Tan, CEO and Chairman of Broadcom Inc, and soprano Sumi Jo.
Hock Tan will receive an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree. Chairman Tan is credited with growing Broadcom into a world-leading semiconductor company and playing a significant role in driving the digital transformation movement.
KAIST stated, “We award the honorary doctorate to Chairman Hock Tan in recognition of his contributions as an overseas member of the KAIST President’s Advisory Council from 2006 to 2013, helping KAIST rise as a world-class university.”
Chairman Hock Tan said, “It is a great honor to be recognized by KAIST, which has achieved outstanding accomplishments in science, engineering, and research.”
Professor Sumi Jo, who will receive an honorary Doctor of Science and Technology degree, was appointed as an invited distinguished professor at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology in 2021. She established the ‘Sumi Jo Performing Arts Research Center’ and has advised on stage performances utilizing AI-based music ensemble technology and research on virtual voices using singing synthesis technology. She also participated in technology performance demonstrations held on the KAIST campus.
