Daegu Saegil Market Renovated After 53 Years ... Asphalt Paving, Guide Signs, and Rain Shelters Installed
The old Daegu Saegil Market, established in 1970, has completed its renovation after 53 years.
At the pre-ceremony event held on the 7th, the Nalmoe Bukchum Preservation Society performed Jisinbalgi, a ritual to drive away bad luck and pray for blessings at the beginning of the year. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting, a demonstration of opening and closing the sky awning, congratulatory speeches, and after the ceremony, a shopping event was held at the newly renovated market to participate in revitalizing the traditional market.
Daegu Saegil Market, established 53 years ago, is an aging market that had attempted several times to improve its facilities and environment, but due to various circumstances, these efforts were not realized. As a result, the surrounding environment was unsanitary and hazardous, seriously detracting from the urban aesthetics, prompting the recent environmental improvement project.
The environmental improvement construction plan was established in July 2023, followed by a detailed design service in August. After commencing construction in October, a four-month construction period ensued, during which a rain shelter (sky awning), asphalt pavement for the floor, and guide signs were installed.
