Yoon: "Low Birthrate Issue Top National Priority... Target Total Fertility Rate 1.0"
President Yoon's Special New Year Interview
President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 7th that solving the low birthrate issue is "the government's top national agenda. We must first devise measures aiming for a total fertility rate of 1.0."
President Yoon made this remark during the 100-minute broadcast of 'Special Dialogue: Visiting the Presidential Office' on KBS 1TV at 10 p.m., in response to a question about the will to improve given that "the total fertility rate is the lowest in the world at around 0.6, and the population aged 70 and above has surpassed that of people in their 20s."
President Yoon pointed out, "The nation must be sustainable, and one of the president's constitutional duties is to ensure the sustainability of the country. Despite significant financial investment and efforts over the past 20 years, there has been no effect."
He added, "We plan to divide the issue into structural parts and specific policy parts, and this time, we intend to operate the Low Birthrate and Aging Society Committee very efficiently to produce visible results."
