Seo Sang-won, CEO of StageX, held a press conference at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul, stating the business strategy to become "a new deep-tech telecom company that innovates technology and services." StageX was selected as the frequency allocation entity on the 31st of last month through the 28 GHz band auction for 5G mobile communication services, narrowed down to a two-way competition with MyMobile (Future Mobile Consortium).
CEO Seo presented three goals for StageX: ▲ customer-centric revolutionary pricing plans ▲ real 5G communication experience through innovative technology ▲ a trustworthy telecom company for everyone. Seo said, "Customer-centric pricing plans, as StageX envisions, are not about adding something extra that customers need but boldly removing what is unnecessary," adding, "We plan to offer revolutionary pricing plans by changing various fees and distribution structures."
Innovation is also anticipated in facility and infrastructure investments. The entire core network responsible for telecom service operations will be virtualized on the cloud to secure scalability, availability, and cost-effectiveness, enabling rapid construction at efficient costs.
They are also planning to introduce AI technology to reduce costs. From network quality management to customer service, AI technology will handle all operations to cut expenses. CEO Seo stated, "This will enable additional rate reductions and profitability improvements."
Using the 28 GHz frequency secured through the auction, they announced plans to introduce a ‘real 5G service.’ Compared to 2018, when this frequency band was first supplied to the three major mobile carriers, they expressed confidence in providing hotspot-centered Wi-Fi with advanced technology. StageX expects the 28 GHz band to have strengths in ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-connectivity in densely populated areas such as concert halls, hospitals, schools, and airports.
They also revealed specific plans for securing 28 GHz devices. CEO Seo said, "We will actively work with the Ministry of Science and ICT to enable the use of 28 GHz-supported devices like Galaxy and iPhone, already released in North America, in Korea," adding, "We will develop StageX-exclusive 28 GHz-equipped devices with Foxconn." He also announced plans to launch the industry's first super app in the telecommunications field.
They disclosed detailed investment costs. "We plan to invest a total of 612.8 billion KRW for the 28 GHz frequency allocation fee and the mandatory installation of 6,000 base stations, which is about 5.5% of the 5G investment amount of other telecom companies," adding, "The saved costs will be invested in customer benefits and R&D to create domestic employment, and we will play a leading role in technological advancement along with additional base station installations in the future."
