'18 Taxis' Headed to the Presidential Residence at Midnight... Police Trace the Caller
A commotion occurred in the early morning hours when a dozen or so taxis attempted to enter the presidential residence but were stopped by police officers on duty.
Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced on the 5th that they stopped 18 taxis trying to enter the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, in the early morning and are currently tracking down the taxi callers on charges of obstruction of business.
According to the police, from around 2:30 a.m. to 4:20 a.m. that day, 18 taxis received false calls from an unidentified suspect and were stopped by police while attempting to enter the presidential office residence. It was reported that the caller summoned taxis near the residence through a taxi-hailing platform.
The taxi drivers reportedly stated, "We just followed the navigation guidance as per the call request."
The caller used the same contact number to summon taxis to a location 20 meters away from the residence, but police investigations revealed that the caller's phone number does not exist.
