Eonju Lee "Lee Jae-myung Invited Me to Rejoin the Party... Embarrassed by Open Criticism from Pro-Moon Faction"
"Worries That Rejoining the Party May Trigger Internal Power Struggles"
Amid controversy within the Democratic Party of Korea over the possible reinstatement of former People Power Party lawmaker Lee Eon-ju, known as the 'Moon Jae-in sniper,' Lee stated, "I have not considered rejoining the party at all unless the party proposes it first."
On the 1st, Lee posted on his Facebook, "Recently, several lawmakers close to the Democratic Party leader approached me multiple times, saying that I am a symbolic politician of the non-partisan anti-Yoon faction and suggested forming a kind of anti-Yoon coalition front, asking for help, and saying that the Democratic Party also needs diverse views." He added, "I said I would listen if the leader spoke to me directly, and a few days later, the Democratic Party leader called me and encouraged me to rejoin the party with a similar intention."
He said, "However, some within the party, mainly pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in) and the 86 group (those who entered university in the 1980s and were born in the 1960s), have been publicly criticizing me one after another, which is bewildering." He continued, "If I decide to rejoin, we will have to resolve issues with each other, but I am still an outsider, and the disputes from that time are not ongoing. Excessive personal attacks that dredge up past wounds do not help the cause of setting the country right and forming a coalition to judge the regime, nor do they help the party leader or party members who emphasized that cause and asked for my help."
He added, "I even worry that I might inadvertently become a pretext for internal power struggles within the party."

Furthermore, Lee said he has not yet decided whether to rejoin the Democratic Party. He said, "I am contemplating whether it is possible to build an anti-Yoon coalition front of democratic conservatives like myself and whether I can play a role in the Democratic Party's reform." He added, "I am well aware of the hopes of non-partisan citizens who want me to play a role in political change, so I am carefully considering the best course of action with a sense of responsibility."
