Industrial Accident Compensation 'Midas Touch' Exists... Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service Activates 'Public MyData'
Industrial Accident Compensation Efficiency Soars, Receives Prime Minister's Commendation
The industrial accident compensation project utilizing ‘public data’ is being operated effectively and in a timely manner.
The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service (Director Park Jong-gil) has been implementing the ‘Public MyData Service’ since January last year to reduce the paperwork burden for workers applying for industrial accident compensation due to work-related injuries and to provide timely compensation.
This service allows individuals to request that their information scattered across administrative and public institutions be provided to themselves or a designated third party.
Industrial accident workers no longer need to visit multiple administrative and public institutions in person to obtain required documents, as they can simply request MyData provision of their information such as their history of enrollment in the four major social insurances.
The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service uses real-time acquired data combined with its own data to generate occupational history information more quickly and easily, and appropriately utilize it for industrial accident compensation.
Currently, occupational history information such as the Health Insurance Qualification Acquisition and Loss Certificate and disability certificate information are being obtained and utilized. In May last year, the scope of applicable tasks was expanded from 2 to 15 types, further enhancing customer convenience.
Notably, this contributed to the activation of public MyData by increasing the processing performance of noise-induced hearing loss cases, which require occupational history information, by 28.6% compared to the previous year.
Recognizing these efforts and achievements in activating public MyData, the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service received the ‘Prime Minister’s Commendation’ at the ‘2023 Digital Government Innovation Merit Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in December 2023.

Park Jong-gil, Director of the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service, stated, “The Service operates a system where industrial accident workers can directly check occupational history information generated using MyData online,” adding, “We will continue efforts to strengthen the rights of information subjects and become an innovative and future-oriented organization.”
An award ceremony for institutions recognized for digital government innovation achievements was held last year.
