Gokseong-gun Wins Grand Prize in Gwangju-Jeonnam Local Autonomy Management Awards

Achievements Including Dementia Memory Taxi and Dreamnolja Playground Creation

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Sangcheol Lee) announced that it won the Grand Prize at the ‘15th Gwangju·Jeonnam Local Autonomy Management Awards’ held on the 30th.

The ‘Local Autonomy Management Awards,’ hosted by Gwangnam Ilbo, evaluates the achievements of 27 local governments in Gwangju and Jeonnam across seven categories: administrative services, creative innovation, cultural tourism, health and welfare, economic revitalization, safety and environment, and human resource development, selecting outstanding local governments based on improvements in residents' quality of life and regional competitiveness.

Gokseong-gun applied in all seven categories and received consistently high scores, winning the Grand Prize overall.

In particular, in the ‘Health and Welfare’ category, the dementia memory taxi service supporting mobility convenience for residents with movement difficulties was recognized as a good example. In the ‘Human Resource Development’ category, the Dream Play Playground project, where children directly participated from design to planning, was also acknowledged. Additionally, in the ‘Safety and Environment’ category, the AI-based ICT platform for wildfire monitoring, the first 24-hour wildfire surveillance system introduced in Jeonnam, received favorable evaluations.

Other notable achievements included the operation of the Didimdol Volunteer Group that revitalizes the local community, the introduction of a collaborative system for efficient work promotion, support for young webtoon artists in producing promotional webtoons for small business owners in Gokseong-gun, and the operation of a public-private-academic cooperation group to overcome the risk of local extinction and promote mutual development.

Governor Sangcheol Lee said, “This Grand Prize award is an achievement made together by the residents and public officials of Gokseong-gun. We will continue to make our best efforts to create a happier Gokseong for all residents, from children to adults, through discovering specialized excellent policies unique to Gokseong and customized projects.”
