Generations of Good Deeds... The Story of Jo Yang, Jung-gu's Largest Individual Donor?
12 Years of Sponsorship in the US... Total of 310 Million Won
The story of Elder Jo Yang (80), who has continued sponsorship in the United States for 12 years in honor of her mother's wishes, is bringing warmth to Jung-gu.
The total amount of donations she has generously given so far is 310 million KRW, making it the largest individual donation in Jung-gu.
When Elder Jo Yang's mother passed away, she left a building in Hoehyeon-dong, Jung-gu. Wanting to use the income from the building meaningfully, Elder Jo Yang recalled the good deeds her mother performed for neighbors during her lifetime and has been continuing that spirit of sharing by delivering donations to Jung-gu through a proxy every year at the end of the year.
The donations made since 2011 have been given to elderly people living alone and low-income students, and since 2020, they have been provided to a local nursing facility to be used for Christmas and year-end events, seasonal outings, and holiday celebrations. In December of last year, she donated 60 million KRW, which will be distributed to vulnerable groups through Jung-gu Office, Hoehyeon-dong, and Namsan Silver Welfare Center.
Elder Jo Yang's name has been engraved on a plaque and inducted into the "Jung-gu Hall of Fame," which expresses gratitude to donors.
