'30 Minutes from Incheon to Gangnam'... Both GTX-D and E Lines Depart from Incheon
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Announces Route Confirmation
Incheon City Strives to Pass Preliminary Feasibility Study Within Current Government Term
Both the Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) D Line and E Line start from Incheon.
On the 25th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the confirmation of the GTX-D Y-shaped line connecting Incheon Geomdan~Gyeyang and Incheon Airport~Cheongna~Gajeong to Seoul Gangnam (Samseong), as well as the GTX-E line passing through Incheon Airport~Cheongna~Daejang~Namyangju.
In this regard, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok held a briefing at Incheon City Hall and expressed his "welcome together with the citizens of Incheon."
The GTX-D line is a Y-shaped route where the 'Incheon Airport~Cheongna~Gajeong' and 'Gimpo~Geomdan~Gyeyang' lines meet at Daejang~Samseong and operate in two branches toward Hanam City and Yeoju City. Additionally, the GTX-E line connects to Namyangju via 'Incheon Airport~Cheongna~Gajeong~Daejang,' similar to the GTX-D line.

Initially, the GTX-D line was not considered as a Y-shaped line connecting to Incheon Airport. The GTX-D line was originally included only as the Western Metropolitan Express Railway (Gimpo~Janggi Station~Bucheon Sports Complex, 21.1 km) in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan. However, it gained momentum after being selected as a campaign project of Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok and President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Incheon City plans to work closely with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure the inclusion of the line in the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan scheduled for the second half of next year and to pass the preliminary feasibility study within the current administration's term.
Meanwhile, this GTX line expansion plan follows last November’s direct connection of Seoul Subway Line 9 to Incheon Airport and the announcement on the 19th of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s adjustment plan for the extension of Seoul Subway Line 5 to Geomdan, marking a noticeable change in the railway network of the northwestern region of Incheon.
Mayor Yoo said, "The expansion of GTX lines connecting the east-west axis of the metropolitan area is not only urgent for the citizens of Incheon but also essential for the advancement and competitiveness of Incheon International Airport as one of the world’s top three airports," adding, "We will continue to do our best to expand a comprehensive railway network as promised to the citizens."
