Last year, Ko Gun-taek, who secured three wins on the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, is starting his season in Thailand this year.
He will participate in the GolfT KPGA Winter Tour Round 1, held on the 25th at the Phoenix Gold Bangkok Golf Club in Thailand (par 70, 7,080 yards). This marks the revival of the Korean Winter Tour series in Thailand after 10 years since 2013 and 2014.
The tournament is a 36-hole stroke play event over two days. The total prize money is 100 million KRW, with the winner receiving 15 million KRW. The second Winter Tour event will take place at the same venue on the 1st of next month. The top two players based on the combined results of the two Winter Tour events will receive benefits depending on their status, such as exemption from qualifying for five 2024 second-tier tour events, KPGA tour professional qualification, and exemption from the KPGA tour professional qualifying tournament.
The Winter Tour was established to help Korean Tour players, who mainly train in Southeast Asia including Thailand during the winter, to assess their training results and regain competitive form. The event is hosted by GolfT, a Thai golf reservation platform company. Each tournament features 136 players, with prize money awarded to the top 60.
