Director Hong Sangsoo Advances to Berlin Film Festival for 5 Consecutive Years
New Work 'Yeohaengja-ui Piry?' Invited to Competition Section
Director Hong Sangsoo's new film, 'The Need of Traveler,' has been invited to the competition section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, which opens on the 15th of next month (local time). With this, Director Hong has maintained his connection with the festival for five consecutive years since 2020's 'The Woman Who Ran.'
The Berlin Film Festival Secretariat announced twenty feature films selected for the competition section on the 22nd. Artistic Director Carlos Chatrian described 'The Need of Traveler' as "a quintessential example of filmmaking free from budgetary constraints," and introduced it as "a special comedy created with an A-list actress and other cast members."
This is Director Hong's thirty-first feature film. It stars French actress Isabelle Huppert, along with Lee Hye-young, Kwon Hae-hyo, Jo Yoon-hee, and Ha Sung-guk. Huppert previously collaborated with Director Hong in 'In Another Country (2012)' and 'Claire's Camera (2018).'

Director Hong's participation in the Berlin International Film Festival marks his seventh since 2008's 'Night and Day.' In 2017, he won the Silver Bear for Best Actress (Kim Min-hee) for 'On the Beach at Night Alone,' and in 2020, he received the Silver Bear for Best Director for 'The Woman Who Ran.' In the following years, he also celebrated awards for 'Introduction' (Silver Bear for Best Screenplay) in 2021 and 'The Novelist's Film' (Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize) in 2022.
