Jeonbuk Province and Provincial Council Visit Jeonju Nambu Market to Join Forces for the People's Economy
On the 16th, Merchants' Association Meeting... Promise of 'Support Measures and Win-Win Cooperation'
On the 16th, Jeonbuk Province and the Provincial Council held an on-site meeting for coexistence and innovation of traditional markets with the presidents of merchant associations from nine traditional markets and shopping districts in Jeonju, including the Nambu Market.
According to the province, this meeting aimed to create a local commercial atmosphere where large and small distribution companies and traditional markets and shopping districts coexist and cooperate, listen to difficulties in operating traditional market merchant associations, and devise appropriate support measures together with the city and the province.

Attendees included Moon Seong-cheol, Director of the Job and Livelihood Economy Division of Jeonbuk Province; Provincial Council members Kim Hee-su, Lee Byung-do, and Kang Dong-hwa; Lee Young-sook, Director of the Livelihood Economy Division of Jeonju City; City Council members Kim Won-joo, Lee Guk, and Jeon Yoon-mi; and Sim Seong-wook, President of the Jeonju Merchant Federation (Seobu Market and Shopping District), along with nine merchant association presidents.
During the meeting, they discussed this year’s traditional market support and operation plans, as well as proposals and cooperation matters from the Jeonju Merchant Federation.
The Jeonju Merchant Federation stated, "The way to develop traditional markets is to activate merchant organizations through merchants’ self-initiated improvements and to transform traditional markets in line with distribution environments and consumer trends." They pledged, "We will cooperate with administrative agencies, companies, and related organizations throughout the province to grow into a nationally recognized cultural tourism-specialized traditional market."
Provincial Council member Kim Hee-su said, "We hope to strengthen the unity among traditional market merchant associations, serve as a foundation for public-private cooperation to lead the development of local commercial districts, revitalize stagnant commercial areas, and enable Jeonbuk’s long-standing traditional markets to make a leap forward amid changing economic trends."
Moon Seong-cheol, Director of the Job and Livelihood Economy Division, said, "With the vision of 'A special opportunity with people, realizing Jeonbuk’s commercial districts,' we will strive to communicate more with merchant associations and strengthen the competitiveness of local commercial districts in the era of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province."
Meanwhile, the Jeonju Merchant Federation is composed of merchant organizations from Seobu Market and Shopping District, Nambu Market, Shinjungang Market, Moraenae Market, Pungnammun Shopping District, Jungang Shopping District, Electronics Shopping District, Jeonbuk University Shopping District, and Dongmun Shopping District. Starting this year, they plan to expand the general assembly and hold regional tours by market, inviting local council members and related organizations.

The province announced that it will focus on strengthening the innovation capacity of merchant organizations and discovering specialized local commercial districts, and will begin preparing systematic support measures starting this year.
