Recycling Difficult Plastics
Transforms into Practical Items Like Plant Kits and Educational Tools
39,507 bottle caps, enough to stack twice the height of Namsan N Seoul Tower; 42,690 straws, eight times the length of Jamsu Bridge; 147,092 sterilized packs, twice the size of the reservoir at Umyeonsan Ecological Park...
On the 16th, Namyang Dairy Products announced that as a result of its eco-friendly program "Save the Earth," it collected a total of 229,289 pieces of waste materials from 2020 to 2023.
As part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, this campaign, conducted together with consumers, included activities such as collecting small plastics that are difficult to recycle, material donations, and eco-friendly education, featuring various initiatives to strengthen sustainable management.
First, Namyang Dairy Products donated the collected waste materials to the resource circulation organization Seoul Saehalyong Plaza by last year. The collected small plastics were delivered to upcycling companies through "material matching," where they were reborn as various household items such as flowerpot kits, educational tools, and interior accessories.
In particular, the eco-friendly scissors "PLA-X," made using bottle caps, can be used in various ways such as for separate collection and opening straw-free products. The design also enhances practicality by using an eco-friendly paper material case that can be separately recycled. As a result, it received favorable reviews, including being featured in the "Excellent Cases of Resource Circulation" published by the Korea Food Industry Association in 2021.
Alongside this, to nurture future earth guardians, Namyang Dairy Products visited elementary schools to conduct eco-friendly education, delivering useful knowledge about proper waste separation that can be practiced in daily life. Especially for quality education, Namyang Dairy Products developed a storytelling-type eco-friendly education program that even young students can easily understand, increasing both fun and participation through quizzes and quests, which received positive feedback.
