"Lee Jae-myung 23% vs Han Dong-hoon 22%... People Power Party 36% vs Democratic Party 34%"
Gallup Regular Opinion Poll
President Yoon's Approval Rating Rises 2%p to 33%
In a regular Gallup poll asking about the next leader, Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, was found to be closely trailing Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, by a margin of 1%, which is within the margin of error.
According to Gallup's own regular poll conducted from the 9th to the 11th of last month (a telephone interviewer survey of 1,002 adults nationwide aged 18 and over), in the future leader survey asking "Who will lead our country going forward," Lee was favored by 23%, and Han, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman, by 22%. Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, who left the Democratic Party, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, and Lee Jun-seok, Policy Committee Chairman of the Reform New Party, each received 3%.
Gallup stated, "With Han Dong-hoon, former Minister of Justice, accepting the position of Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, the leaders of the two major parties have effectively formed the leading group of preferred future political leaders," and added, "Han first appeared in the future political leader survey in June 2022 with a preference rating of 4%, which has gradually increased, reaching a peak of 22% this time."
Regarding the outlook for the 22nd general election, 35% of respondents expressed that the ruling party should hold the majority, while 51% said the opposition party should hold the majority. In party support, the People Power Party received 36%, and the Democratic Party 34%. The support rates for the two parties showed little change compared to the poll conducted four weeks ago (second week of December).
President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration was 33%, up 2 percentage points from the previous survey. The disapproval rating fell by 3 percentage points to 59%.
