People Power Party: "Suitable Person to Utilize Relevant Data"
Potential Internal Noise if Innovation Plan Reflects in Nomination
Controversy over Yunsim (尹心, President Yoon Seok-yeol's intentions) continues even after the People Power Party's nomination management committee was formed. This is because Representative Lee Cheol-gyu, considered a key figure in the pro-Yoon faction, joined the committee. The People Power Party emphasizes ‘fair nominations.’ However, skepticism is growing about what principles the committee will present.
On the 12th, the People Power Party explained that Representative Lee was included because he is the right person to properly utilize the nomination-related ‘data’ secured through recruiting the party secretary-general and the talent recruitment committee chair. It is necessary to have someone who can oversee areas that Jang Dong-hyuk, the secretary-general who has been appointed for less than a month and has a short parliamentary career (first-term), cannot manage.

As doubts about Representative Lee’s appointment grew, Han Dong-hoon, the People Power Party’s emergency response committee chairman, stepped forward. Han told reporters the day before that in response to the criticism that ‘Yunsim influenced the committee’s formation,’ "I am the one leading the party," and "I will take responsibility and lead this party." He explained that this general election is one he is personally conducting, and the decision to appoint Representative Lee to the committee was also his judgment.
Additionally, there is a counterargument that Representative Lee is ultimately just one member of the nomination committee. On the same day, Jang Dong-hyuk, secretary-general of the People Power Party, said in an MBC radio interview, "Representative Lee is one of the nomination management committee members, and the nomination process will be guided by principles and standards set by the nomination management committee chair, the secretary-general, and the emergency response committee chairman. Anyone can see that nominations will be made according to these principles and standards." Regarding the interpretation that Representative Lee is ultimately a channel to enforce Yongsan’s will, Secretary-General Jang expressed his determination, saying, "I will ensure fair and winning nominations even if I have to stake my position."

Within the party, there is close attention to what principles Chairman Han of the emergency response committee will present in relation to these observations. Representative Hong Moon-pyo of the People Power Party said in a BBS radio interview, "The problem lies with Chairman Han," adding, "If he presents principles there, prepares materials accordingly, and distributes them to the nomination committee members, they will have no choice but to follow those ‘rules.’ However, if there are no principles, or if people close to Yoon’s core associates are appointed, or if nominations are made unprincipledly under the pretext of drafting candidates from difficult constituencies, misunderstandings could multiply."
However, the innovation plan established during former People Power Party Innovation Committee Chairman In Yo-han’s tenure could be a variable regarding the ‘rules.’ Chairman In proposed innovation plans that demanded sacrifices from pro-Yoon factions, senior Yeongnam members, and leadership, as well as setting youth strategic nomination districts and completely excluding the bottom 20% of elected officials from nominations. Both the scope of application and target regions could become powder kegs. People Power Party nomination committee chairman Jeong Young-hwan said at a meeting with reporters the day before, "It will be reflected in some way."

Furthermore, the scope of primary elections is also a matter of interest. Secretary-General Jang refrained even from using conventional expressions like ‘primaries are the principle’ in response to some calls for primaries as a rule for presidential office personnel running in the general election, stating only, "We will ensure that nominations are made based on the fairest and most objective criteria possible."
