Hong Nampyo, mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, who was indicted for violating the Public Official Election Act by offering public office and bribing candidates during last year's nationwide local elections, denied all charges in his final statement at the first trial sentencing hearing held on the 8th.

He stated, "At the time of indictment, I held a press conference and said that I never offered or promised public office to anyone, and although I was asked by a specific person to provide a public office, I refused, and that remains the same now," adding, "I have never instructed a third party to offer public office to others or promised public office, and I will not do so in the future."
