Nowon-gu Bulamsan Hiking Trail Maintenance Enables Safer Mountain Climbing
Ready to Welcome New Year Hikers with Continuous Trail Facility Maintenance... Bulamsan Hiking Environment Improvement Rising as a Healing Town Loved by Residents... "Safer, More Comfortable! Reviewing Improvements from Residents' Perspective"
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has significantly improved the convenience for residents visiting the mountain from the New Year by maintaining the hiking trails of Bulamsan.
Nowon, which boasts forest assets such as Suraksan, Bulamsan, Choansan, and Yeongchuksan, sees hikers throughout the year. Among them, Bulamsan has recently been reborn as a representative "healing town" in the area with facilities such as the Azalea Hill and the Garden Support Center.
To provide a safe and pleasant hiking environment for visitors to Bulamsan, the district has been steadily maintaining hiking trails and surrounding paths.
The main improvements include ▲winter steep slope ice sections improvement (road surface maintenance, installation of heating cables) ▲maintenance of old and hazardous facilities (closure of side trails, removal of dead trees, maintenance of guide signs, etc.) ▲maintenance of restrooms and septic tanks within the forest ▲establishment of a regular inspection system through the operation of the Salpimi Team.
First, the improvement of icy sections on steep slopes during winter. The areas included in this maintenance are Bulamsan Trail No. 5, which connects from Junggye 4-dong Bulamsan Park through Jeongamsa Temple to Kkaltak Hill, and Bulamsan Trail No. 7, which runs from Junggye Bon-dong near Wide Rock to Hakdoam. Bulamsan Trail No. 5 is easily accessible from Sanggye Station and is a course suitable for beginners, making it frequently used by hikers. Trail No. 7 is known for its steep slope up to Hakdoam and is popular among those who appreciate the thrill of hiking.
The district has installed heating cables on paved roads in dangerous icy sections of each trail to prepare for winter safety accidents. Through this maintenance, it is expected to prevent icing in advance during sudden heavy snowfall and enhance the speed and efficiency of on-site snow removal operations.
In addition, old and damaged facilities and neglected dead trees were replaced and removed respectively, and side trails that are not official routes were closed to prevent possible accidents.
This meticulous care by the district was greatly supported by the Salpimi Team, composed of 50 resident volunteers who love the mountains, along with temporary workers assigned on-site. Their active efforts allowed early detection of hazards on the hiking trails and surrounding paths of Suraksan and Bulamsan, and also improved the environment of eight restrooms located along these trails, achieving both safety and convenience for hikers.
Furthermore, through an organizational restructuring in January 2024, the district established the "Surak-Bulamsan Team" within the Green City Division to manage Suraksan and Bulamsan more systematically, preparing to enhance the prestige of the district’s proud forest resources.
