[One Day Ten Thousand Steps] Less Strenuous and Safer... Seoul City Dulle-gil Renovation
Installation of Forest View Observation Deck and Signage
Stepping Up as a Global Trekking Course
Seoul City is completely revamping the Seoul Dulle-gil trail courses to reduce the burden of completing the entire trail and to ensure safe use of the paths.
Starting in April, Seoul City will officially launch 'Seoul Dulle-gil 2.0.' The plan includes creating rest areas and observatories with forest views, and installing signboards and stamp boxes at each starting point to establish the trail as a trekking course that people around the world would want to experience at least once.
The Seoul Dulle-gil, with a total length of 156.5 km, consists of eight courses connecting various parts of the outskirts of Seoul. Since its opening in 2014, the 60,000th completer was recorded on December 1 of last year.
However, since each course averages about 20 km in length, Seoul City will divide the eight courses into 21 shorter courses. This decision is based on the judgment that to further activate trail use, it is necessary to subdivide the courses and enhance connectivity with tourist resources. Various short courses will be arranged so that users can choose and complete a course that matches their level. Increasing the number of courses from eight to 21 will reduce the average length of each course to about 8 km. The completion time, which was about eight hours, will be shortened to an average of three hours. At each of the 21 starting points, signboards reflecting the spatial characteristics of the area will be installed, and the trail direction signs will be made more noticeable.
Distinctive and unique forest recreation facilities will be created in each region along the trail, providing not only walking but also various sights and experiential opportunities. A system is also being developed to award additional points upon completion in connection with the citizen health management application 'Sonmok Doctor 9988.'
Detailed information to find desired courses will be provided at 43 subway stations and 20 bus stops leading to the Seoul Dulle-gil, and a Seoul Dulle-gil road view service will begin this month on major portal sites.
To ensure citizens can use the trail safely, CCTV will be installed at major trail entrances, and emergency bells that connect directly to the control center will be expanded in case of emergencies.
Lee Su-yeon, Director of the Seoul City Green City Leisure Bureau, said, "Through the Seoul Dulle-gil 2.0 revamp, we will provide opportunities for not only Seoul citizens but also domestic and international tourists to experience the charm embedded in every corner of Seoul," adding, "We will continue to improve the courses and facilities so that Seoul Dulle-gil can establish itself as a trekking course that people worldwide want to walk at least once, beyond just Seoul."
