Reports have emerged that Ahn Seung-min, a five-term senior independent lawmaker who left the Democratic Party of Korea in opposition to leader Lee Jae-myung, has decided to join the People Power Party.
On the 7th, Ahn told Hankyoreh, "I have decided to follow the People Power Party's wishes regarding the timing and method of joining." A key official from the People Power Party also said, "Ahn is expected to join as early as this week."
The day before, Ahn had lunch with Han Dong-hoon, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Afterwards, Chairman Han told reporters, "I earnestly asked Ahn to come with me and join us." Ahn responded, "We reached a considerable agreement today."

Classified as a representative 'anti-Lee Jae-myung faction,' Ahn left the Democratic Party on the 3rd of last month, stating, "Since Lee Jae-myung became the leader, the Democratic Party has been corrupted into 'Lee Jae-myung's private party' and the 'Gaeddal (the leader's hardcore supporters) party'."
