Expanding Elderly Welfare by Establishing a Comprehensive Care System in the New Year

To welcome the new year of Gapjin, Kang Jin-won, the governor of Gangjin County, began his first public welfare visits on the 2nd by visiting the welfare centers in Gangjin-eup and Gundo-myeon. He will continue to visit 11 welfare centers in various towns and villages, as well as the Gangjin County branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, until the 8th, exchanging New Year greetings and spending time communicating with the local elderly residents.
According to the county on the 4th, Governor Kang, dressed elegantly in hanbok, performed a deep bow (keunjeol) with children and served rice cake soup (tteokguk) to the elders, personally greeting each one for the New Year.

The elders who received the deep bows presented Governor Kang Jin-won with lucky pouches inscribed with wishes for health and fulfillment of desires as a token of gratitude, offering blessings for “all things to go well.”
Governor Kang Jin-won shared the joyful news, saying, “On the first day of the new year, a precious first baby was born in Gangjin County,” and added, “With the new year’s organizational restructuring, a Senior Health Division has been established at the public health center, enabling systematic operation of senior welfare policies so that the elderly can enjoy a healthy and vibrant old age.”
Kim Dong-pyo (81), chairman of the Gangjin-eup Welfare Center, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Last year, the increase in meal service fees and support for kimchi-making expenses allowed the elderly to have balanced meals.”
In his 2024 New Year’s address, Governor Kang announced plans to implement the ‘Home CCTV Senior Safety Keeper’ project to establish a safety system that can respond immediately to emergencies for seniors living alone, to build a second senior welfare center in Gangjin-eup, and to operate a ‘6070 University’ for retirees focusing on reemployment and hobby activities.

Additionally, the county plans to create a pleasant environment in village senior centers and expand health programs to help seniors, who make up the largest portion of the total population, lead healthy and active lives through multifaceted policies.
