Mirae Asset, 'TIGER ETF' Tops Individual Net Purchases in 2023
Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on the 3rd that ‘TIGER ETF’ was the most chosen by individual investors throughout 2023.
According to the Korea Exchange, the cumulative net purchase amount by individuals for TIGER ETFs in 2023 totaled 1.0547 trillion KRW. This ranks first among domestic asset management companies. Following 2022, TIGER ETF continued to be the top choice for individual investors in 2023, establishing itself as a leading domestic ETF.
Over the past year, TIGER ETF appears to have received overwhelming preference by discovering global innovation growth themes and introducing new income-type products for pension investors.
By individual ETF, the ‘TIGER 2nd Battery Materials Fn ETF (462010)’ led the growth of TIGER ETF by ranking first in cumulative net purchases by individuals among all ETFs listed domestically. The cumulative net purchase amount by individuals for this ETF last year was 697.9 billion KRW. It was the best-selling ETF among individual investors in 2023. It is analyzed that the differentiated portfolio presenting cathode materials, a core component of secondary batteries, and vertical integration to capture investors in the U.S. electric vehicle market was effective.
TIGER ETF was also well received by investors expecting stable cash flow amid high interest rates and increased volatility in the global stock market. TIGER ETF, which has the largest monthly dividend ETF lineup in Korea, introduced new income-type products in 2023. Representative examples include the TIGER U.S. Dividend ETF series, such as ‘TIGER U.S. Dividend Dow Jones ETF’ and ‘TIGER U.S. Dividend +7% Premium Dow Jones ETF,’ which consistently paid dividends based on strong fundamentals even in a high interest rate environment, strengthening individual investor demand. The ‘TIGER U.S. Nasdaq 100 Covered Call (Synthetic) ETF’ also gained many individual investors’ choices, emerging as a leading monthly dividend ETF.
Fueled by individual investors’ interest, TIGER ETF ranked first in assets under management (AUM) held by individual investors. According to the Korea Exchange, as of the end of 2023, there are 813 ETFs listed domestically. The total net asset size is 121 trillion KRW. The amount held by individual investors is 26.7371 trillion KRW, of which TIGER ETF accounts for 12.7625 trillion KRW, representing 48% of the total.
