Yeosu City, Ministry of the Interior and Safety Local Price Evaluation 'Best' Institution

Secured a Total of 300 Million KRW in Special Grants for the First and Second Half of the Year

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it was selected as the ‘Best’ institution in the second half of 2023 local price stabilization management performance evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on December 28, securing a special grant of 150 million KRW.

The city was also selected as the best institution in the same evaluation in the first half of the year, maintaining its status as the top local price stabilization management institution for one year and receiving a total incentive of 300 million KRW.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated the overall price stabilization management in the second half of 2023 using nine indicators across five areas, including local public utility price stabilization management, support for good price businesses, personal service fee inflation rate, and local price stabilization performance, targeting 243 local governments nationwide.

Despite the high inflation environment, Yeosu City froze local public utility fees such as garbage bag fees and water and sewage charges, expanded the designation of good price businesses, and provided customized incentives worth about 1 million KRW per business, proactively responding to stabilize prices affecting ordinary citizens’ livelihoods.

In particular, to stabilize people’s livelihoods, the city conducted price stabilization campaigns in areas densely populated with food and lodging businesses and multi-use gathering places in connection with the Yeosu Renaissance Citizen Movement, creating an atmosphere of participation in price stabilization through continuous meetings with related organizations. Additionally, the city delayed the application timing of taxi fare increases through in-depth deliberations.

Jo Yong-yeon, head of the Regional Economy Division, said, “It is valuable and gratifying that our efforts to ease the citizens’ hardships have shown results,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to promote local price stabilization policies closely related to ordinary citizens’ livelihoods.”
