Gyeonggi-do, First Half Year Personnel Changes for Department Heads and Deputy Heads... 'Bold Appointments'
Gyeonggi Province carried out a regular personnel reshuffle for high-ranking officials at the level of department heads and above in the provincial government, effective January 1 next year, on the 28th.
This personnel reshuffle applied a performance- and ability-centered personnel management approach emphasized during the 8th elected administration. Accordingly, it is characterized by breaking seniority and job series and placing bold appointments in key positions for major current issues.
Gyeonggi Province appointed Choi Wonyong, Deputy Mayor of Pyeongtaek, as Head of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority (Grade 1), and Kim Neungsik, Director of the Welfare Bureau, as Director of the Safety Management Office (Grade 2).
At the Grade 3 director level, seven officials were transferred, including Lee Jongdon as Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, and Gong Jeongsik as Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau. Additionally, Choi Hyemin, Head of the Digital Innovation Division, was appointed as Policy Planning Officer; Jeong Jongguk, Head of the Housing Policy Division, as Director of the Urban Regeneration Promotion Team; Park Geungyun, Head of the International Economic Cooperation Division, as Director of the Lifelong Education Bureau; and Kang Hyunseok, Head of the Personnel Division, as Director of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Promotion Team. In the Northern Office, Jo Jangseok, Planning and Budget Officer, was also promoted.
Notably, among the director-level positions, the Head of the Health and Environment Research Institute was designated as an open recruitment position for the first time, and Kwon Boyeon, Head of the Northern Branch, was selected as the most suitable candidate through a public interview process.
Gyeonggi Province strengthened its cooperation system with cities and counties to promote mutual growth by transferring a large number of outstanding resources to deputy heads of cities and counties.
Grade 2 deputy heads appointed include Son Imseong, Deputy Mayor of Hwaseong; Hong Jiseon, Deputy Mayor of Namyangju; Lim Jongcheol, Deputy Mayor of Pyeongtaek; Kim Jinki, Deputy Mayor of Paju; and Kim Gyusik, Deputy Mayor of Gimpo. Grade 3 deputy heads appointed include Jeong Sunwook, Deputy Mayor of Gwangmyeong; An Donggwang, Deputy Mayor of Gunpo; Eom Jinseop, Deputy Mayor of Icheon; Lim Kyungsuk, Deputy Mayor of Dongducheon; Shim Youngrin, Deputy Mayor of Gwacheon; and Park Nogeuk, Deputy County Head of Gapyeong.
