Designation of Energy Economics Institute as the Operating Organization for Clean Hydrogen Certification
Testing and Evaluation Agencies Include KTC and KTR
The government has officially designated institutions for clean hydrogen certification, establishing a certification promotion system. On the 28th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it designated the Korea Energy Economics Institute as the clean hydrogen certification operating institution, and the Korea Testing Certification (KTC) and the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) as clean hydrogen certification testing and evaluation institutions, respectively.
The clean hydrogen certification institutions are based on the Act on the Promotion of the Hydrogen Economy and Hydrogen Safety Management. The clean hydrogen certification operating institution performs overall operation and management functions of the clean hydrogen certification system, including receiving certification applications, operating the certification review committee, and issuing certificates. The testing and evaluation institutions carry out tasks such as on-site facility and data review, preparation of evaluation result reports, and maintenance and inspection of certification standards.

A Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy official explained that to enhance the efficiency of certification system operation and unify customer contact points, one institution was designated as the operating institution, and multiple testing and evaluation institutions were designated to flexibly respond to certification demand and strengthen certification capabilities. Park Chan-gi, Director of the Hydrogen Economy Policy Division, stated, "We will ensure the stable implementation of the clean hydrogen certification system and smoothly promote related systems such as the clean hydrogen power generation bidding market to be launched next year."
