Commissioner Monahan: "I Surpassed McIlroy and Woods"
ESPN Selected World's Most Influential in Golf
Rumaiyan PIF Chairman 2nd, Ram Joining LIV 3rd
McIlroy 4th, Woods 5th, Rose Jang 9th
Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour, was named the most influential figure in the global golf world this year.
On the 21st (local time), the U.S. sports media outlet ESPN selected and ranked 25 individuals who had a significant impact on the global golf scene this year. ESPN described Commissioner Monahan as "shocking the global golf community by announcing a merger with LIV Golf, a previously adversarial organization." In June, the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which sponsors LIV Golf, declared a surprise merger.
LIV Golf, launched in June last year, had maintained a hostile relationship with the PGA Tour. However, the sudden merger announcement was literally "breaking news." The impact was so great that Commissioner Monahan took a medical leave immediately after the announcement and returned to work after a month.
