Gwangjin-gu Expands Installation of Heated and Cooled Seats at City Bus Stops
26 New Sidewalk Platforms Installed Along Streets... Focused on High-Usage Areas Like Schools and Apartments
Automatically Controlled According to Outdoor Temperature, Reaches Up to 42℃ in Winter to Protect Body Heat
Operates from 4 AM to 11 PM... Transforms Cool with Air Conditioning Function in Summer
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is expanding the operation of ‘heated and cooled seats at city bus stops’ that protect people from extreme weather such as cold waves.
The district has taken proactive measures in preparation for the severe cold expected this winter. Additional heated and cooled seats have been installed at 26 roadside bus stops, mainly in front of schools and apartment complexes where city bus usage is high.
The heated and cooled seats maintain body temperature warmly in winter and coolly in summer. They are automatically controlled according to the surrounding air temperature and have both heating and cooling functions.
During the winter season from November to March, when the temperature drops below 26℃, the seat surface temperature is raised up to 42℃. Conversely, in the summer season from June to September, when the outdoor temperature exceeds 26℃, the seat temperature is lowered to 22℃ to keep it cool.
The operating hours are from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Anyone waiting for the first or last bus can use them comfortably. The seats feature Gwangjin-gu’s representative characters ‘Gwang-i’ and ‘Jin-i’ on the surface to convey friendliness.
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “The heated and cooled seats are a safety device that allows people to avoid the cold and heat even for a short time,” and added, “We will establish necessary facilities to ensure there is no inconvenience in using public transportation.”
