Gyeonggi-do Activates 'Emergency Level 2' on the 20th Due to Cold Wave Forecast
Gyeonggi Province activated Emergency Level 2 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 20th as a preemptive response, following a cold wave warning forecasted with temperatures dropping to minus 15 degrees Celsius starting from the 21st.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province urgently disseminated an official letter containing instructions from Oh Byeong-kwon, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, to each city and county.
Deputy Governor Oh stated in the letter, "With the severe cold continuing since last week, there are concerns about the safety of vulnerable groups to the cold and damage to residents caused by frozen water meters," and urged, "The province and local governments should activate emergency systems to strengthen care for vulnerable groups and proactively promote guidelines for preventing frozen pipes in advance."
Gyeonggi Province began Emergency Level 2 operations at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters from 1 p.m. on the same day.
Emergency Level 2 involves 16 personnel from 14 departments across 8 teams working with cities and counties to manage the situation, provide urgent livelihood support, and conduct emergency repairs for facility damages in preparation for the cold wave.

Additionally, 521 personnel are on duty to check on and provide health management welfare services for approximately 210,000 households of elderly living alone and health-vulnerable groups, in cooperation with public health centers and life support workers, as well as to prevent and support emergency repairs for frozen water facilities.
