Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Songjeong Disaster Risk Improvement District Project Gains Momentum
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City has secured national funding for the ‘Songjeong Disaster Risk Improvement District’ project.
The district announced on the 18th that it will actively promote a maintenance project from next year to eliminate disaster risks in flood-prone areas around Seonam-dong and Sochon-dong.
The project will be carried out starting with the detailed design service next year, aiming for completion in 2027.
The total project cost is 19.6 billion KRW, with a budget support of 14.7 billion KRW, including 9.8 billion KRW from national funds and 4.9 billion KRW from city funds.
Since being designated as a ‘Disaster Risk Improvement District’ in December last year, the district has made various efforts to secure national funding for disaster prevention projects.

The area suffered flooding damage in 2020 due to record-breaking heavy rainfall, affecting 136 parcels of land covering 3.3 hectares. It remains a high-risk area for flooding due to the absence of forced drainage facilities in the low-lying areas.
