Korea Airports Corporation Subsidiary Union to Strike on 6-7th... Corporation to Deploy Replacement Workers
Demanding Fair Contracts and Improved Worker Treatment
Union members belonging to subsidiaries of Korea Airports Corporation working at 14 airports nationwide, excluding Incheon International Airport, will go on strike for two days starting from the 6th.
According to the National Airport Labor Union on the 5th, about 2,000 union members (estimated 900 by the corporation) from three subsidiaries of Korea Airports Corporation?Nambu Airport Service, KAC Airport Service, and Aviation Security Partners?will carry out a warning strike demanding improvements in working conditions.
The union is demanding improvements in the unfair contract system between the corporation and its subsidiaries, better treatment of workers, and wage increases.
The union stated, "The subsidiaries of Korea Airports Corporation proposed a monthly wage increase of 20,000 won to subsidiary workers whose lives are threatened by various price hikes including public utility fees," adding, "This is a low-level wage increase proposal that pushes workers into struggle." They further demanded, "Apply the market wage rate of 100% as the minimum standard for labor costs according to government guidelines and guarantee a 10% profit margin for subsidiaries."
The strike is expected to mainly involve personnel in airport operations such as environmental cleaning, facility management, and parking management, rather than essential maintenance personnel like security screening staff.
