The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) held the "10th Marine Information Cooperation Agency Collaboration Workshop" on the 30th, in collaboration with the Navy's Maritime Information Group, under the theme of "Marine Observation and Prediction Technology for Multi-Domain Maritime Operations."

This workshop, held at KIOST, has been ongoing since 2014 and was organized to advance "marine information" prediction technologies, including marine environment, weather, and underwater acoustics, through core marine science technologies by experts from the military, government, academia, and research sectors related to marine information.

About 170 participants attended the workshop, including key commanders and personnel from KIOST, the Navy, and the Maritime Information Group, as well as officials from related organizations. Seven experts from KIOST, the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO), the Agency for Defense Development, and Pukyong National University presented their research and directions for cooperation with the Navy.

In February, KIOST established the "Marine Power Enhancement Research Headquarters" to strengthen marine power capabilities and develop technologies for responding to marine disasters and accidents.

The headquarters conducts research to establish a national marine defense safety support system, including ▲comprehensive marine information acquisition in border sea areas ▲development of utilization technologies ▲development of prediction technologies to reduce damage from marine disasters and accidents.

Since 2016, KIOST has also been operating short-term specialized training courses aimed at improving the qualifications of Navy officers and non-commissioned officers.

Director Kang Do-hyung stated, "I hope this workshop will greatly contribute to systematic marine territory management and security," adding, "Based on KIOST's excellent research capabilities, we expect to establish a foundation for military-academic cooperation and contribute to the development of national marine defense projects."
