"Unabated Sensation"... Nongshim Meoktaekkang Sells 10 Million Packs
Cumulative Sales of 10.2 Million Packs
About 5 Months Since June Launch
Similar Trend to Top 3 Snack Kkulkkwabegi
Nongshim's Meoktaekkang has surpassed a cumulative sales volume of 10 million packs. It has been just over five months since its launch on June 26.
According to the related industry on the 30th, Nongshim's Meoktaekkang recorded cumulative sales of 10.2 million packs as of the 22nd week since its launch. The sales trend of this product is similar to that of Kkulkkwabegi, which ranks third among Nongshim's popular snacks following Shrimp Chips and Potato Chips.
Earlier, Meoktaekkang predicted a hit by selling all 1 million initial packs within a week of its launch. Due to soaring interest, it became difficult to find the product in the market, leading to restrictions on the number of packs sold per person across distribution channels, creating a sensation. About 6 million packs were sold in approximately three months until mid-September, and sales continue to be maintained at around 2 million packs per month. Nongshim posted an operating profit of 55.7 billion KRW in the third quarter of this year, a 103.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Along with the growth of its overseas business centered on ramen, the popularity of Meoktaekkang contributed to improving its performance.
As Nongshim's Meoktaekkang gained great popularity, related industries competitively launched similar products based on seafood flavors. A representative example is Lotte Wellfood's 'Oing Nogari Chip Cheongyang Mayo Flavor,' introduced in early September. Following that, U&ITRADE released 'Meoktaeto Cheongyang Mayo Flavor,' and convenience store chain CU launched 'Cheongyang Mayo Shrimp Chip' as a private brand (PB) product. Small and medium manufacturer Sangil Confectionery introduced 'Meoktae Rice Chip Cheongyang Mayo Flavor' through GS25. Haitai Confectionery also challenged the market earlier this month with 'The Bbase (Crispy Shrimp Chip) Soy Sauce Cheongyang Mayo Flavor,' combining shrimp snacks with soy sauce Cheongyang mayo flavor.

To respond to the steady demand for the leading Meoktaekkang, production lines were expanded from the existing Busan factory to the Asan factory. Weekly production volume also increased from the initial 300,000 packs to 600,000 packs. A Nongshim official stated, "There are currently no plans to add more production lines," and added, "The production volume is being maintained at the expanded level."
