Thirteen medical staff and employees, including Shin Min-sik, Chairman of Social Contribution at Jasaeng Medical Foundation (Director of Jamsil Jasaeng Korean Medicine Hospital), set up a clinic in the gymnasium of Bucheon University of Tashkent (BUT) and provided health consultations and acupuncture treatments to about 300 local Koryo-saram and residents. Along with prescribing herbal medicine tailored to their conditions, traditional Korean medicine patches for managing musculoskeletal diseases during winter were also distributed.
The hospital reported that patients who visited the clinic relaxed and engaged in treatment thanks to the interpreters among the volunteers and the proactive care from the medical staff of Jasaeng Korean Medicine Hospital. After treatment, as the effects of acupuncture appeared?such as reduced pain and increased joint range of motion?many patients expressed their gratitude. The medical staff and volunteers explained how to take herbal medicine and use the traditional Korean medicine patches, helping elderly patients manage their health during the winter season.
Additionally, Jasaeng Medical Foundation promoted an educational program for spinal health targeting local children. On the 23rd, medical staff from Jasaeng Korean Medicine Hospital visited National Kindergarten No. 122 on the outskirts of Tashkent and conducted education by demonstrating Jasaeng Growth Gymnastics. The event was attended by government officials including Oyatillo Rakhmatillaev, Deputy Director of the Uzbekistan Early Childhood Education Department, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports.
On the 25th, 200 local kindergarten teachers were invited to BUT to receive training on Jasaeng Growth Gymnastics. According to the foundation, the Uzbekistan authorities plan to pilot the introduction of Jasaeng Growth Gymnastics in some kindergartens in the Tashkent area and, if effective, include it in the regular early childhood education curriculum. On the same day, Jasaeng Medical Foundation also donated a scholarship of 10 million KRW to BUT to encourage Koryo-saram students and foster outstanding talent.
Jasaeng Medical Foundation explained that this volunteer activity in Uzbekistan was organized to honor the Koryo-saram who fought for independence and to share pride as one Korean people. During the Japanese colonial period, many independence activists carried out anti-Japanese struggles mainly in the Maritime Province, but in 1937, the Soviet Union forcibly relocated about 170,000 Koryo-saram to Central Asia. It is estimated that the current number of Koryo-saram in Uzbekistan is about 200,000.
