Samsung: "Next Year's New Business Strategy Keyword is 'GDP'... We Are the Only Ones Equipped with Everything"
Samsung Electronics Foundry Focuses on HPC and Automotive
Details 'GDP' Strategy to Respond to AI Era
Confidence in GAA, High-Performance DRAM, and Advanced Packaging
Samsung Electronics has concretized its plan to enhance synergy between its memory semiconductor and foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) businesses in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The company explained that it is the only one capable of showcasing advanced memory and foundry technologies together, thereby increasing customer demand.
Samsung Electronics recently posted the presentation content from the 'Investors Forum 2023' held in Hong Kong on the IR website on the 13th. The Investors Forum is an annual event hosted by Samsung Electronics, inviting investors, analysts, and other investment stakeholders. The purpose is to share the company's current status and future vision. It is held alternately in major regions such as Seoul, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
At this event, Samsung Electronics introduced its semiconductor business strategy to respond to the rapidly changing computing paradigm in the AI era. Regarding the foundry business, the company announced plans to focus on high-performance computing (HPC) and automotive sectors. It aims to move away from a mobile-centric business structure and concentrate on new growth engines.
The HPC and automotive sectors share many similarities. Both data centers and vehicles require semiconductors with high performance and low energy consumption, leading to a high dependence on advanced processes. Samsung Electronics presented 'GDP' as the key business strategy keyword to respond to this. GDP is a term combining next-generation transistor technology 'Gate-All-Around (GAA)', high-performance and customized DRAM, and advanced packaging.
Samsung Electronics plans to leverage synergy between foundry and memory technologies to introduce next-generation semiconductors that meet market demands. Jung Ki-bong, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Foundry Business Division, said, "Many customers are choosing Samsung Electronics because we have GDP," adding, "there is only one company in the world that possesses all of GDP."
