MFDS Hosts 'One Asia Cosmetics & Beauty Forum' in Japan
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that the '2023 One Asia Cosmetics & Beauty Forum' will be held over two days from the 20th to the 21st in Tokyo, Japan. Korean cosmetics ranked first in the import product share in the Japanese cosmetics market last year.
At this forum, the Japanese regulatory authorities will introduce the Japanese cosmetics system, and Japanese distribution experts will share recent trends and strategies in the Japanese cosmetics market. Through export consultation meetings jointly participated by domestic companies and Japanese distributors, as well as visits to local cosmetics stores, the forum will confirm sales trends and consumer preferences for Korean cosmetics and support securing distribution channels.
Additionally, this forum is held in conjunction with the Korea Health Industry Development Institute's 'Cosmetics Pop-up Booth Operation Project in Tokyo, Japan' to support the entry of domestic small and medium-sized enterprises into the Japanese market.
In particular, Oh Yu-kyung, the head of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, will directly gather opinions on strategic support measures to expand the market entry of Korean cosmetics in Japan through a CEO roundtable. There are also plans to visit local factories of domestic companies in Japan (LG Household & Health Care Saitama factory).
Furthermore, taking this forum as an opportunity, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will hold director-level cooperation meetings with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (Japan's cosmetics regulatory agency, MHLW) and the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (cosmetics review and evaluation agency, PMDA). The meetings will share regulatory policies on cosmetics safety management between the two countries and discuss mutual cooperation measures such as safety evaluation technology exchange.
