SKY Medical School Admission Cutoff May Drop by Up to 4 Points... Admissions Industry Predicts Decline at Most Major Universities
Analysis of Raw Score Passing Line at Jongno Academy
Seoul Area Major Universities Expected to Drop by up to 10 Points
"High Discrimination Advantageous for Repeat Students"
Top Grade Cutoff Also Falls by 7-9 Points
The 2024 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) held on the 16th has been analyzed as a 'difficult exam,' leading admissions experts to predict that the expected regular admission scores and the top grade cutoff lines for major universities will all decline. In particular, the high difficulty level in the Korean language and mathematics sections is expected to lower the admission cutoffs, and this year as well, science track students crossing over to humanities departments is expected to be prominent.
According to the expected admission scores (based on raw scores) for major universities in 2024 analyzed by Jongno Academy on the 17th, the regular admission cutoff for medical schools in the Seoul area (9 universities) is expected to drop from last year's 288-294 points to 283-292 points this year. This means a decrease ranging from 2 to 5 points. For medical schools in metropolitan area universities, the cutoff is also expected to fall by 3-4 points to around 283-285 points compared to last year.
The expected score for Seoul National University College of Medicine is 292 points, 2 points lower than last year, and the Business School is 284 points, 4 points lower. The Department of Political Science and International Relations is 282 points, 4 points lower, and the Department of Korean Language Education is 277 points, 5 points lower. The College of Pharmacy (273 points) and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (272 points) also dropped by 8 points each.

The Business Administration Department (277 points), Department of Political Science and International Relations (275 points), and Department of English Language and Literature (269 points) decreased by 4, 4, and 5 points respectively. The College of Pharmacy (271 points) and Department of System Semiconductor Engineering (265 points) also fell by 4 and 7 points respectively.
Korea University College of Medicine also dropped by 4 points to 288 points compared to last year. The Business School fell by 4 points to 277 points, and both the Department of Economics (277 points) and Department of English Language and Literature (269 points) decreased by 4 and 3 points respectively. The Department of Semiconductor Engineering also dropped by 7 points to 264 points.
The regular admission cutoffs for major universities in the Seoul area are expected to mostly decline. For humanities fields, the decrease is expected to range from 1 to 5 points, while for natural sciences, the decline is predicted to be around 2 to 10 points.
Lim Seong-ho, CEO of Jongno Academy, said, "With the increased discriminative power of the CSAT, repeat test-takers are expected to have an advantage, and it will be difficult for current high school seniors to compete with repeaters in regular admissions." He also analyzed, "The phenomenon of science track students crossing over to humanities departments may intensify compared to last year. Since the proportion of science students taking the Language and Media section was higher than that of humanities students, it is expected that many high scorers in Korean will be from the science track."
