"Becoming Rookie of the Year in My Hometown Chuncheon Is Special"
Joy and regret intertwined.
This was the expression of Kim Min-byeol, the Rookie of the Year on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour. On the 12th, she finished the season tied for 14th place at the KLPGA Tour final event, the SK Shielders·SK Telecom Open (total prize money 1 billion KRW), held at La Vie Belle Country Club Old Course (par 72, 6,805 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. Kim Min-byeol (2,969 points) was chosen as the best rookie, surpassing strong competitors such as Hwang Yu-min (1 win, 2,656 points) and Bang Shin-sil (2 wins, 2,399 points).
However, Kim Min-byeol did not lift the winner’s trophy. This year, she finished in the top 10 a remarkable 12 times, including three runner-up finishes. Two of those runner-up results were losses in playoffs, one of which was against Hwang Yu-min. She said, "My goal this year was winning rather than Rookie of the Year. Although I didn’t win, I think I did well to receive the reward of Rookie of the Year. Especially, becoming Rookie of the Year in my hometown Chuncheon is very special," she shared her thoughts.

Kim Min-byeol set her goal for next year as winning two tournaments. She said, "There were opportunities, but I am disappointed that I let myself down. As my desire to win grew, I think I couldn’t play my own game. I will strengthen my putting and short game during winter training, and develop the mental strength to perform well even in playoffs or tense, nerve-wracking moments. Next year, I will definitely become a winner," she vowed.
