Dong-A University Holds Semiconductor Experts Networking and Kickoff Ceremony... Promoting Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration
Dong-A University held an ‘Expert Networking and Launch Ceremony to Activate Industry-University-Government Cooperation in the Power Semiconductor Sector.’
The event took place on the 7th at the main conference room of Dong-A University’s Seunghak Campus, attended by Dong-A University President Lee Hae-woo, Kim Sung-jae, Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Professor Shim Dae-yong of the Department of Electronic Engineering, and other members of the Power Semiconductor Specialization Promotion Team.
In addition, university headquarters officials, Lee Dong-jae, CEO of K Foundry, Lee Kyung-duk, Director of the Future Industry Bureau of Busan City, Kim Young-bu, Head of Policy Planning at Busan Technopark, and Choi Young-chun, Secretary General of the Busan Industry-Academic Convergence Center, also attended.
The event included an introduction to Dong-A University’s ‘Power Semiconductor Sector Development and Business Promotion Team,’ a presentation of business promotion plans, and an expert networking session.
This year, Dong-A University became the first in the nation to appoint semiconductor experts as ‘full-time industry-academic faculty (tenure-track),’ striving to nurture talent in the power semiconductor sector, a national key industry and one of the five major innovation clusters in the Busan region, and to activate industrial cooperation.

View original imagePresident Lee Hae-woo said, “It is very meaningful to have gathered representatives of companies leading Korea’s semiconductor industry and experts from Busan City who are dedicated to the development of regional industry-academic cooperation.”
He added, “I hope this becomes a successful industry-university-government cooperation model for customized professional workforce training, R&D, job creation, advanced industry innovation cluster formation, and regional development in the semiconductor sector, which is a future growth engine with very high added value through cutting-edge technology.”
Professor Shim Dae-yong said, “To activate industry-university-government cooperation in the Busan power semiconductor specialized complex, I proposed a technology cooperation task force composed of Dong-A University professors,” adding, “I hope that demand-driven industry-academic-research R&D will proceed with the support of K Foundry’s research and development, which is promoting the advancement and commercialization of next-generation SiC compound power semiconductors.”
Lee Dong-jae, CEO of K Foundry, said, “K Foundry is promoting compound power semiconductors as a core business area,” and expressed gratitude for Dong-A University’s proposal to form a technology cooperation task force composed of professors with experience in compound semiconductor R&D, as well as for the full cooperation of Busan City, Busan Technopark, and the Industry-Academic Convergence Center.
Lee Kyung-duk, Director of the Future Industry Bureau of Busan City, explained, “Following the designation of the ‘Busan Power Semiconductor Specialized Complex’ by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in July, Busan City is actively working to develop the regional economy and create good jobs by establishing a global ecosystem through the power semiconductor value chain.”
