Lawyer Lee Jung-ryul fined for spreading personal information of accuser in ‘Hyekyeonggung Kimssi’ case
Lawyer Lee Jeong-ryeol, a former judge who disclosed personal information of a client who reported Kim Hye-kyung, wife of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been sentenced to a fine.
The Supreme Court's First Division (Presiding Justice Kim Seon-su) on the 9th upheld the original ruling that sentenced Lee to a fine of 5 million won in the final appeal trial on charges of leaking business secrets.
In 2018, Lee took on the case of Mr. A, the representative of Gungchatsa (People Searching for Hye-gyeonggung), who reported Ms. Kim in the so-called ‘Hye-gyeonggung Kim’ case, but was later prosecuted for exposing some of Mr. A’s personal information while posting the accusation letter on social media.
The first trial court stated, "Considering the content of the accusation case and the interests with other people, there was an intention to keep confidentiality and benefits from maintaining secrecy," and sentenced him to a fine of 5 million won.
