Genomic clinical medicine is a field that integrates individual patients' clinical information and genomic data based on medical technology to improve diagnostic accuracy, predict disease occurrence, and enable personalized treatment.
Korea University Guro Hospital has opened the "Precision Genomic Clinical Medicine Center" and plans to strengthen personalized treatment by combining clinical trial linkage, pharmacogenomics, nutritional genomics, and microbiome analysis based on patients' clinical and genomic information.
The center consists of two clinics. The "Cancer Genomics/Hereditary Cancer Clinic" operates with the goal of providing customized medical services to cancer patients while predicting cancer occurrence in families of hereditary cancer patients for early detection and improving survival rates. The "Rare/Genetic Disease Clinic" will provide precise diagnosis of various genetic diseases and offer optimal treatment and management programs.
Professors from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are responsible for genome-based diagnosis, while specialized professors from related clinical departments such as Oncology, Neurology, Nephrology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurosurgery, and Pediatrics manage treatment and patient health care. Additionally, professional coordinators provide tailored management and education according to the situations of patients and their guardians.
At the symposium held alongside the center's opening ceremony, discussions were held on topics including ▲hereditary cancer testing and guidelines ▲tumor genomic analysis and clinical trials ▲diagnostic approaches for undiagnosed rare diseases ▲the significance of genetic diagnosis in common diseases, covering the field of precision genomic clinical medicine.
