Dongshin University Selected as Operating University for Forest Experience and Education Support Project for Vulnerable Groups
Dongshin University (President Lee Juhee) announced on the 26th that it has been selected as an operating university for the "2024 Green Fund Public Project" vulnerable group forest experience and education support project (effect enhancement type) organized by the Korea Forest Welfare Institute.
The forest experience and education support project is a forest welfare service aimed at helping the emotional stability, physical health, and quality of life of vulnerable groups in the region.
The Department of Forest Landscape Architecture and the Department of Occupational Therapy at Dongshin University jointly proposed "Providing psychological and physical health promotion services for local elderly through a dementia prevention program in the forest and verifying its effects," and were selected as a project recipient.
Dongshin University will receive 100 million KRW in project funds from January to October next year. With the help of the National Naju Forest Experience Center and the Jeonnam Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute, it will support forest healing programs for dementia prevention to about 1,300 elderly people in local welfare and nursing facilities, including ▲ exercise using forest trails and terrain ▲ natural material experience activities and sensory play ▲ brain and cognitive function enhancement activities.
Through this, it is expected to improve the health and quality of life of the elderly in the local community and reduce individual and social medical costs associated with dementia prevention.
In addition, the effectiveness of the forest healing program will be scientifically verified, and a network will be established with institutions providing forest welfare services to discover and propose various elderly welfare policies.
