Busan City, Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, and 14 universities in the Busan area will hold the ‘2023 Busan Digital Innovation Academy Job Fair’ on October 31 and November 1 from 1 PM to 6 PM at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2.
The 14 universities in the Busan area include Gyeongnam Information College, Kyungsung University, Dongmyung University, Dongseo University, Dong-A University, Dong-Eui College of Science, Dong-Eui University, Pukyong National University, Busan Catholic University, Pusan National University, Busan Health College, Busan Women’s College, Silla University, and Korea Maritime and Ocean University (in alphabetical order).
The Busan Digital Innovation Academy (BDIA) is a recruitment-linked education support project promoted by the city to nurture high-level talent in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector within the region and to prevent the outflow of talent.
With the acceleration of digital transformation causing a surge in demand for software (SW) personnel, the city is conducting education for job seekers in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, aiming to train 10,000 specialists in new industry technology fields such as artificial intelligence, cloud, and big data by 2026.
Since its pilot project in 2021 and full-scale operation last year, a total of 1,358 people were trained in 2022, with 787 of them successfully employed (employment rate of 58.0%). From last year through 2026, the city is actively fostering 2,000 specialists annually. As of the end of August this year, 1,289 people are undergoing training (299 completed, 990 in progress).
This event is part of the Busan Digital Innovation Academy project and is designed as a meeting place for job seekers and employers to communicate, connecting graduates of the academy with about 60 hiring companies located in Busan and the metropolitan area, as well as ICT job seekers.
Following last year, this year’s event also allows participation not only from BDIA trainees but also from ICT job seekers.
Participating organizations include 63 companies with hiring plans in 2023 such as Busan Bank, BNK Systems, WINS, Moosma, Samwoo Immersion, and Sharpen Goat; 8 training institutions including the Korea Information Security Education Center and Korea Quality Foundation; and 7 companies introducing their corporate culture such as KT, Douzone Bizon, RSUPPORT, and Hancom Frontier.
The event consists of ▲‘Talent Matching’ to support employment in the ICT field ▲‘Contest’ which is a software (SW) development project evaluation exhibition ▲‘Conference’ for introducing corporate culture.
In ‘Talent Matching,’ job seekers who register in advance will be connected with hiring companies beforehand, and various interviews including technical skill assessments will be conducted on-site. On-site registration is also available.
In the ‘Contest,’ teams of students from the 14 participating universities will exhibit 33 project works developed in six new technology fields such as artificial intelligence, metaverse, and big data, with awards based on prior evaluations.
The ‘Conference’ includes ▲introductions to ICT company development cultures ▲employment special lectures (company-specific employment strategies, resume and self-introduction letter writing, generative artificial intelligence (AI)).
ICT companies participating include KT, Douzone Bizon, Hancom Frontier, Samwoo Immersion, Megazone Cloud, RSUPPORT, and MDS Intelligence.
The employment special lectures cover company-specific (large enterprises, mid-sized companies, startups) employment strategies (by Seung-il Jeong, Head of Education Business at Wanted Lab), resume and self-introduction letter writing, and an overview of generative AI for employment (by Young-geo Jo, former AI Team Leader at Krafton).
Additionally, side events such as ▲Challenge Golden Bell ▲AI interviews ▲resume and self-introduction letter consulting ▲formal wear rental ▲personal color diagnosis ▲ID photo shooting will be held in various ways. Also, Industrial Bank of Korea will provide 10,000 KRW interview support funds to the first 100 visitors who open a new account at their booth.
