'Find Korean Tourism Experts' Celebrating 20 Years of Hallyu, Korea Quiz Championship Held
Winter Sonata Filming Site Nami Island Hosts Event
Featuring 20 Themes Including K-Pop, Food, Drama, and Tourist Attractions
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 24th that they held a 'Korea Quiz Championship' event targeting Japanese participants.
This event was held on the 23rd at Nami Island, the filming location of Winter Sonata, to commemorate the '20th anniversary of the Korean Wave' since the drama Winter Sonata aired on Japan's NHK in 2003.
Sixty-five Japanese participants who purchased special Korea travel packages among the members of the Korea Travel Certification took part. The Korea Travel Certification is a test promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization since 2020 to sustain interest in Korea.
The Korea Quiz Championship covered a total of 20 topics including K-pop, food, dramas, and tourist attractions, and outstanding participants were awarded airline tickets, Legoland accommodation vouchers, and local specialty products.

Lee Young-geun, Director of the International Marketing Office at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, “Japan is the top country for visits to Korea with over 1.33 million visitors until August this year, and before the pandemic in 2019, the revisit rate reached 49.9%, making it a core customer of Korean tourism. We plan to continue promoting Korea's appeal as a travel destination by utilizing various Hallyu contents.”
