Chairman Lee Jae-yong Visits Next-Generation Semiconductor R&D Complex Construction Site
Core Hub Leading Future Semiconductor Technology
Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the Samsung Electronics Giheung and Hwaseong campuses on the 19th to tour the construction site of the next-generation semiconductor research and development (R&D) complex and review semiconductor strategies.
Samsung Electronics stated that after touring the next-generation semiconductor R&D complex construction site, Chairman Lee urged employees to create a new turning point for innovation so that the semiconductor business can leap forward once again amid ongoing internal and external crises. He also emphasized the importance of unwavering technological leadership and proactive investment despite the crisis.
On-site, a management meeting was held to discuss key issues in depth, including ▲the status of advanced process development ▲plans to secure technological capabilities ▲and supply chain measures related to semiconductors. The meeting involved receiving reports on the development status of next-generation semiconductor technologies and discussing ways to enhance competitiveness across all semiconductor sectors, including memory, foundry, and fabless system semiconductors. Attendees included DS Division head Kyung Kye-hyun, Memory Business Division head Lee Jung-bae, Foundry Business Division head Choi Si-young, and DS Division CTO Song Jae-hyuk. Some executives on overseas business trips participated via video conference.
The next-generation semiconductor R&D complex being built at the Giheung campus will serve as a core research base leading future semiconductor technologies. It is a large-scale project with an investment of approximately 20 trillion won by 2030. Additionally, it will be a complex research facility where research, production, and distribution are integrated in one location, equipped with advanced infrastructure that enables rapid application of cutting-edge technology developments to mass-produced products.
