Lee Young, Minister of SMEs and Startups, stated on the 12th that he "currently has no plans" to run in next year's general election.
Minister Lee made this remark in response to a question from Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, during the National Assembly's Industry, Trade, and SMEs Committee's audit of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. When Jeong asked again, "Does that mean you have plans later?" Minister Lee clarified, "That is not what I meant."

Minister Lee served as a proportional representative for the People Power Party for two years starting in 2020 and was appointed as the first Minister of SMEs and Startups under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration in May last year. Some speculate that Lee, a politician with a business background who has gained administrative experience, may challenge a constituency seat in next year's general election.
