Gurye-gun Develops Bread for Hwaeom 4-Color Blue Tour Project

Development of Specialized Bread by Gurye Hwaeomsa-saek Cooperative, Anticipating Regional Growth

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that as part of the Hwaeom 4-Color Blue Tour Project, it has developed specialty bread and plans to conduct a pilot sale at Hwaeomsa Temple and the Hwaeomsa shopping district starting October 6.

Various initiatives are being carried out, including preliminary entrepreneur training and professional workforce development for local residents, production of promotional materials, and creation of specialty foods.

In response, merchants in the Hwaeom district established the Gurye Hwaeomsa Color Cooperative and developed specialty bread that represents the Gurye Hwaeom district. They have already completed trademark and design applications.

The Gurye Hwaeomsa Color Cooperative developed ‘Heukmae Bread’ and ‘Bandalgom Bread’ inspired by the red plum blossoms (black plum blossoms) that bloom enchantingly every early spring at Hwaeomsa Temple and the Asiatic black bears living in Jirisan National Park. The specialty bread will be pilot sold starting October 6, coinciding with the Hwaeom Cultural Festival.

The specialty bread is made with unique recipes that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, expected to offer a new and special taste not only to Gurye residents but also to tourists.

Official sales will begin at the complex cultural space scheduled for completion in June 2024.

County Governor Kim Sun-ho said, “I hope the pilot sale of the specialty bread, which will become a representative snack of Gurye, will be successful so that visitors will return to the Hwaeom district and local consumption will be stimulated.”

The Hwaeom 4-Color Blue Tour Project, which Gurye-gun is focusing on, was selected in 2020 as a Jeonnam-type regional growth strategy project. The county is investing a total of 10.8 billion KRW to establish an eco-friendly circular transportation system connecting Hwaeomsa Temple and the Hwaeom shopping district, create an anion path, garden culture street, and a complex cultural space.
