"October Golf" ... "Advice for a Happy Round"
Prepare Extra Clothes for Large Temperature Differences
Purchase Preventive and Treatment Products for Bees and Mosquitoes
Adequate Stretching, Choose Wind Strength Club
It is October. This is the time most eagerly awaited by weekend golfers. It is the best season to enjoy a round in the cool weather. However, it is a month with a large temperature difference between day and night. It is cold in the morning and hot at midday. Thorough preparation is necessary for a happy play. These are the know-hows to enhance enjoyment on the autumn field.
Most golf courses in Korea are located in mountainous terrain. The temperature is 2 to 3 degrees lower than in the city. If you play early in the morning, be sure to bring extra clothes such as jackets, jumpers, or vests. It is better to wear several thin layers rather than thick clothes. This is to avoid interference with your swing. You can take off layers if you get hot. Consider warmth, waterproofing, and windproofing to prepare for bad weather. Even if you don’t wear them, pack them in your caddie bag.

During the round, you need to prepare for attacks from bees and mosquitoes. If your ball flies into deep rough or the woods, give up early. Disturbing hornets can cause serious trouble. Bees will attack indiscriminately if they consider their territory invaded. Long sleeves are better than short sleeves, and caps are better than visors. Avoid strong perfumes or cosmetics that may irritate bees or insects. Purchase insect bite prevention and treatment products easily available at pharmacies. Bees tend to focus their attacks on parts of the head with hair. Avoid wearing black clothes.
The autumn sun is strong. Especially on golf courses, the grass has a high reflectance. Sunscreen is essential. The sun protection factor (SPF) should be over 50. Apply it frequently during play. If you dislike sticky sunscreen, powder or spray types are available. Sunglasses are also a must. They block harmful UVA and UVB rays, preventing eye fatigue. When reading the line on the green, take off your sunglasses.
A rangefinder is also necessary. It is very useful when assigned a ‘beginner caddie.’ It is better to have one that can measure course views. If operating a laser rangefinder is difficult, you can easily measure distance with a watch equipped with GPS. Bring snacks as well. Bananas, energy bars, and other easy-to-eat items are good for quickly relieving hunger.

When it is cold, muscles stiffen. You cannot play as you wish. Sufficient stretching is always essential. Your body also needs warming up. Sudden shots can lead to injuries such as elbow pain. The course condition in autumn is at its best. The fairway grass is dense, and the greens are faster than before. In the afternoon, when the fog clears, the wind becomes stronger. Choose golf clubs considering the direction and strength of the wind. When facing headwinds, use a more generous club. Lower the tee height to create a low-trajectory shot.
