Incheon Airport Corporation-SK Ecoplant, MOU for Building a Circular Economy
Recycling of Waste Resources Such as Pyrolysis Oil within Airports
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 4th that it has signed a "Business Agreement for Establishing a Circular Economy at Incheon Airport" with SK Eco Plant. About 10 officials from both companies attended the signing ceremony, including Lee Hak-jae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Jeon Hyung-wook, Head of the Infrastructure Division, and Park Kyung-il, CEO of SK Eco Plant.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to cooperate to establish a circular economy within the airport by recycling waste generated at Incheon Airport into essential daily products. SK Eco Plant will use the waste resources supplied by the corporation to reproduce various products usable at the airport, such as pyrolysis oil (raw materials for aviation fuel and petrochemical products), biogas, and eco-friendly cement.
The corporation expects that the recycling rate of waste resources, which previously relied on incineration, will increase, significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to incineration facilities and saving approximately 77 billion KRW in costs. It is also anticipated to greatly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the airport.
