Daejeon City Announces Next Year's Living Wage at '11,210 Won'... 3.8% Increase Compared to This Year
Daejeon City has set the living wage hourly rate for next year at 11,210 won.
On the 4th, Daejeon City announced that it recently held a Daejeon City Living Wage Committee meeting, composed of worker representatives, employer representatives, and experts, to decide the living wage hourly rate for next year.
The living wage hourly rate decided by the committee is 410 won (3.8%) higher than this year's living wage (10,800 won), and 1,350 won (13.7%) higher than next year's minimum wage (9,860 won) announced by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
When converted to a monthly salary based on next year's living wage hourly rate, the target workers will receive a total of 2,342,890 won, assuming 209 working hours per month.
This amount is 282,150 won more per month than the monthly salary calculated based on next year's minimum wage, and 85,690 won more than this year's living wage.
Daejeon City expects that 1,749 people, including employees of Daejeon City, invested and funded institutions, public corporations and enterprises, as well as low-wage workers in private consignment, will be subject to the living wage hourly rate next year.

Kim Young-bin, Director of the Economic Science Bureau of Daejeon City, said, "The living wage is a wage policy set to help low-wage workers in the public sector of Daejeon City maintain a minimum standard of living," adding, "The decision on next year's living wage hourly rate reflects concerns to improve the quality of life of local workers."
