Medal Hunt in 3m Springboard Individual Event on the 3rd
Woo Haram (25, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) secured 3rd place in the men's 1m springboard, bringing his total number of individual Asian Games medals to 10 (4 silver, 6 bronze).
On the 2nd, Woo Haram won the bronze medal with a total score of 395.95 points from six dives in the men's 1m springboard final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Olympic Sports Center Swimming Pool in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.
Korean diving has collected 5 medals (2 silver, 3 bronze) as of this day, tying the record for the most medals won in a single Asian Games, matching the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games (2 silver, 3 bronze) and the 2014 Incheon Games (1 silver, 4 bronze). Adding one more medal would set a new record for the most medals won by Korean diving in a single Asian Games.
Woo Haram had previously won 8 Asian Games medals at the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. He added 2 more medals in this tournament, further extending his record.
The gap was significant compared to Wang Zongyuan (21), who holds 6 World Championship medals, and Peng Jianfeng (29, both from China), who ranked first in this event at the 2023 Fukuoka World Championships. Wang Zongyuan took 1st place with 459.50 points, and Peng Jianfeng was 2nd with 442.45 points.
Woo Haram competed for the bronze medal against his junior teammate Kim Youngtaek (22, Jeju Provincial Office). Until the end of the second dive, Kim Youngtaek was ahead of Woo Haram, but Woo overtook him in the third dive. Kim Youngtaek finished 4th with 342.55 points.
On the 30th of last month, Woo Haram teamed up with Lee Jaekyung (24, Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council) to win a silver medal in the men's synchronized 3m springboard. Afterward, he promised, "I will win medals in all three events I participate in at the Asian Games and definitely achieve good results at the Doha World Championships next February, which is the qualifier for the Paris Olympics."
